Much of Shorne is covered by water. The main seas are the Chiropteric ocean, so named after the polar batfolk which once inhabited the world to the north, and the Alkic ocean, named after the great alks.
The world of Shorne is a torus, positioned in space between a sun and a black hole, which the people of Shorne call The Vastness.
The sun appears powder-blue in the sky. No stars shine at night, just nebula spiralling towards the Vastness.
Astrologers believe that the sun is a great millstone, grinding up magic from the vastness and using this magic to shine its light.
