Rowan is a short wode elf with a youthful complexion and long bushy hair. He dresses in a ragged brown tunic, leather boots, and a large green cloak. He also wears a wooden pendant of a squirrel around his neck, holding a green gemstone acorn.
Rowan was born in a glade in eastern Alfwald, just on the edge of the mountain range. He was raised to be a Warden like his father and his father before him. He was loyal and good with animals from a young age, but also easily distracted and energetic.
This may be why he failed his final test to become an official Alfwald Warden; a test of will where the Warden must connect with the natural magic and 'heartbeat' of the forest, but still maintain their sense of self. Rowan failed and fell into the allure of the forest, and started to transform into a squirrel in order to become one with it. The ritual was called off midway and he was taken to the border, lest the lad be lost to the woodlands he swore to protect.
Now that the forest had a hold on him, there was no turning back - if he remained, he would be transformed and lose his memories of his elven life. He could remain in the forest and join its natural order, or leave it and maintain his true form and his sense of self.
Rowan now travels the world, carrying part of the woodland with him in the form of his curse. If he eats nuts or berries, he transforms into a squirrel for a brief time, it can also occur under moments of great stress.
His journey has taken him across Shorne, but he never lost his spirit of hope and optimism. He now seeks like-minded heroes who might share their stories with him, gathering legends of hope and friendship so that he'll be prepared for whatever life throws at him, not unlike a squirrel burying food for winter.
